Request SPID

SPID allows you to access the online services of the public administration and private organisations in a simple, safe and fast way.

What you need to do to obtain SPID

Before activating SPID remember that you must be of legal age and have at your disposal:
  • a valid Italian document;
  • your Italian health card (or tax code card);
  • your personal email and mobile number.

Choose from the identity providers and register on their website.
The registration consists of three steps
  1. enter your personal data;
  2. create your SPID credentials;
  3. validate by choosing between the modes offered by the operator. *
* You can find options for free or for a fee, to know before proceeding with the activation. The timing of issuing the digital identity depends on the identity providers.

Alternatively, you can go to one of the public administrations that can carry out the procedures to identify you, thus allowing the subsequent release of SPID. Discover the authorized offices closest to you.

How do I choose between the different identity providers?

Choose the most convenient recognition mode for you. Identity providers offer different types of activation and three different security levels to choose from. If you live abroad (for example, you are an Italian citizen registered with the AIRE), choose a recognition mode marked with the "EU" icon Unione Europea or the world icon mondo

What recognition modes are active?

  • in person, at the offices of digital identity providers;
  • using a webcam, with operator made available by the identity provider or with an audio-video selfie, together with the payment of a symbolic sum by bank transfer as an additional tool for verifying your identity;
  • with Electronic Identity Card (CIE) or electronic passport, identifying you through the apps of the operators, downloadable from the main app stores;
  • with CIE, National Service Card (CNS) - it is also possible to use the health card -, or with digital signature thanks to the help of a reader (for example the smart card) and its pin.

What are the differences between the three security levels?

Each service requires access with a certain security level. Make sure you choose a provider who guarantees the level of security you need:

  • level 1, with the user's SPID credentials (username and password);
  • level 2, with SPID credentials and the generation of a temporary one-time password (OTP) access code or the use of an app that can be used through a device, such as a smartphone;
  • level 3, that involves the use of additional security solutions and any physical devices (eg smart cards) that are delivered by the identity provider.
